Mary Lea Sharpe

Mary Lea Wooten Sharpe, 88, of Union Grove, N.C., passed away Friday, January 7, 2011, at Iredell Memorial Hospital. Born December 17, 1922, she was the daughter of the late James Monroe Wooten and Marshie White Wooten. She graduated from Union Grove High School. On April 22, 1967, she married William Amos Sharpe, who preceded her in death on December 30, 2009. In addition to her parents and husband, Mrs. Sharpe was also preceded in death by one sister, Annie Messick and two brothers, Royal and Clay Wooten. Mrs. Sharpe was a lifetime member of Union Grove United Methodist Church and a member of Eastern Star for 60 years, having served as Worthy Matron on numerous occasions. She was retired from Carolina Mills after 39 years of service where she worked as payroll clerk. Mrs. Sharpe is survived by two sisters, Naomi Wooten and Stella Crater along with numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews. Funeral services will be conducted 11:00 AM Friday, January 14, 2011 at the Union Grove United Methodist Church with Rev. Steve Kirby officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will visit with friends Thursday evening from 6:00 until 8:00 PM at the church.
