Martha Jean (Norris) Donaldson

Martha Jean Norris Donaldson, 91, of Statesville passed away Saturday, February 28, 2015 at her residence.  She was born in Iredell County on May 21, 1923 to the late John A. and Carrie Williams Norris. Mrs. Donaldson was a graduate of Scotts Senior High and Mitchell College. In 1946, she married John Withers Donaldson, who preceded her in death in 2008.  They had over 62 years of marriage before his passing.  She was retired from NCNB where she worked in various capacities.  She was a member of ABWA, BPW, and the Women’s Civic Club.  She was a member of First Presbyterian Church where she had served as a Sunday school teacher. Along with her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by a grandson, John Brett Donaldson and a son-in-law, Lary Gibson. Left to cherish her memory are three daughters, Ann. L. Donaldson of Torrance, CA, Carol J. Donaldson of the home, and Mary D. Smith (Jimmy) of Huntersville, NC; one son, John W. Donaldson (Audrey) of Clinton, NC; a granddaughter, Jennifer Gibson; a grandson, Brian P. Donaldson; step grandchildren, Tracy Comer (Todd) and Tony Smith; great grandchildren, Gavin Aday, and Meredith and Scott Comer; a sister, Louise Mattichak; nephew, Alan Mattichak, and many cousins. Funeral services will be conducted 2:00 PM, Saturday, March 7, 2015 at First Presbyterian Church with Rev. Steve Scott officiating.  Burial services will be 11:00AM Saturday morning at Oakwood Cemetery.  The family will visit with friends at the church following the 2:00 PM service. The family would like to thank Hospice for the love and care they provided Martha.
