Martha Rachel Culp Dobson, of Statesville, passed away Monday, December 5, 2016 at the Gordon Hospice House. She was born November 16, 1920 in Iredell County to the late Rockwell M. Culp, Sr. and Edna Troutman Culp. Mrs. Dobson was a graduate of Mooresville High School and Appalachian State Teacher’s College (ASU). She taught home economics, 5th, and 6th grade at Central School and helped in the family poultry and dairy operation. Mrs. Dobson was active in the Iredell County Farm Bureau and other community organizations. She was a member of Clio Presbyterian Church for over 60 years and currently was a member of Snow Creek United Methodist Church. Along with her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, J. Adrian Dobson, who passed away in 2004; two brothers, Max Augustus Culp and Rockwell M. Culp, Jr; and one sister, Laura Culp Hamilton. Left to cherish her memory are two sons, James A. Dobson, Jr. (Janice) and Benjamin Culp Dobson (Martha); two grandchildren, Elizabeth R. Dobson and Samuel Watts Dobson (Sherry); one great grandson, Adrian Chase Dobson, all of Statesville; and one nephew, Dr. John R. Culp of Sarasota, Florida. Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 pm Thursday, December 8, 2016 at Snow Creek United Methodist Church with Rev. Gervase Hitch and Rev. Marsha Joyner officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Active pallbearers will be Samuel Dobson, Joe Dobson, Donald Grant, Dorman Loyd, Larry Watts, and Doug Bess. The family will visit with friends on Wednesday evening from 7:00 until 9:00 pm at Nicholson Funeral Home. Memorials may be made to Snow Creek Cemetery Fund Inc., P.O.
