Marith Elaine Payne Hayes, 74, of Statesville, passed away Saturday, June 20, 2015 at Forsyth Hospital in Winston-Salem. She was born in Alexander County on February 15, 1941 to the late Burrell and Maggie Lambert Payne. Mrs. Hayes was a graduate of Hiddenite School and retired from Alexvale Furniture where she was an inspector. She married William “Bill” Hayes on March 9, 2009 and was a very active member of Rose Chapel United Methodist Church. Along with her parents, she was also preceded in death by a brother, Oren Carter Payne. Left to cherish her memory are her husband, Bill; two sons, Mark Mayberry (Pam) of Lenoir and Michael Mayberry of Taylorsville; six grandchildren, Dylan Mayberry, Peyton Mayberry, Brennan Mayberry, Tucker Arnette, Will Hayes, and Sally Hayes; two great grandchildren; a sister; Carolyn Sprinkle (Harold); a brother, Lynn Payne ( Libby); a sister-in-law, Ann Wilson of Lincolnton; a step-daughter, Wendy Arnette (Casey); a step-son, Brad Hayes (Kim); and her special dog, Millie. A memorial service will be held 10:00 AM Saturday, June 27, 2015 at Rose Chapel United Methodist Church with Revs. Ralph and Lynn Lepley officiating. There will be a private family burial held at a later date. The family will visit with friends following the service in the church fellowship hall. The family would like to thank the emergency staff at Davis Hospital and the Stroke Department of Forsyth Hospital for the care they extended Marith.
