Mrs. Margaret Marie Young Sigmon, 88, of Statesville, went home to be with her Lord on Monday, June 02, 2014, at the Serenity House in Mooresville. Mrs. Sigmon was born February 6, 1926 in Catawba County and was the daughter of the late George Young and Madge Peeler Young. She was a graduate of Catawba County schools and on December 22, 1945, she married Rev. James M. Sigmon, who preceded her in death on April 10, 2000. Mrs. Sigmon was a member of Northmont Baptist Church and she was formerly employed with F.W. Woolworths for a number of years as well as the cafeteria manager at Northview Elementary School for 15 years. Marie enjoyed her family. She also had a passion for working with flowers and working in her yard. In addition to her parents and her husband, she was preceded in death by five brothers and one sister. Mrs. Sigmon is survived by four daughters, Donna S. Olivo (Mike) of Reidsville, NC, Barbara S. Cline (Terry) of Newton, Janey S. Munday (Michael) of Statesville, and Louise S. Ostwalt (Donnie) of Troutman. She is also survived by 10 grandchildren, 21 great grandchildren, and two great-great grandchildren. A graveside funeral service for Mrs. Sigmon will be conducted 2:00 PM Thursday, June 5, 2014, in the Berea Baptist Church Cemetery with Rev. Charles Cook officiating. Active pallbearers will be grandsons and great-grandsons, T.J. Cook, Daryn Cook, Adam Beard, Daniel Ostwalt, Todd Munday, and James Olivo. The family will visit with friends following the graveside service at Berea Baptist Church Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Hospice and Palliative Care of Iredell, 2347 Simonton Road, Statesville, NC 28625 or to The Serenity House, 110 Centre Church Road, Mooresville, NC 28115.
