[caption id="attachment_6998" align="alignleft" width="140" caption="Marie Holman"][/caption] Marie Diane Sherrill Holman, 71, of Statesville, passed away unexpectedly on Thursday, January 16, 2014, at her home. Born in Iredell County on May 6, 1942, Mrs. Holman was the daughter of the late Harold Hunter Sherrill and Myrtle Byers Sherrill. She was a graduate of Troutman High School, Mitchell Community College and received her BA Degree in Art from Queens College. On April 16, 1966, she married Billy E. Holman, who survives. Mrs. Holman was a retired art teacher, having taught art at South Iredell High School, Statesville High School, North Iredell High School, and at Mitchell Community College. She had also worked at King's Department Store and Belk Department Store for a number of years. She was a very talented artist and excelled in charcoal drawings, portraits, watercolors, and sculptures. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by one brother, Alvin Henry Sherrill along with one sister, Kay Francis S. Houston. Along with her husband of 47 years, Billy E. Holman, Sr., she is also survived by one son, Billy Holman, Jr (Scotti) of Statesville, three grandsons, Jesse and Jacob Holman and Joseph Bruce along with two granddaughters, Megan and Emily Starnes. One sister-in-law, Nancy B. Sherrill, one brother-in-law, Richard Houston and a number of nieces and nephews also survive. Funeral services to celebrate the life of Marie Holman will be conducted at 3:00 pm Sunday, January 19, 2014, at Monticello Baptist Church with Rev. Bobby Henderson officiating. The family will visit with friends from 2:00 until 3:00 pm at the church. Burial will be 12:00 noon on Monday in the Howell Cemetery in Todd, NC.
