Margaret Souther

January 30, 1927 — March 8, 2019

On a cold morning, March 6, 2019 Margaret Elizabeth Davis Souther heard the call from her Savior and Lord Jesus to come on to her eternal home across the River Jordan where she was greeted by her Lord, her husband Ulysses Grant Souther, who had preceded her in death on September 1997, and her parents and multiple family members and friends.
Margaret was born on January 30, 1927 to Schuyler Colfax and Della Mae Souther Davis in Wilkes County. She was one of 9 siblings born into this family and seven of them have gone on to meet the Lord - Isaac, William "Bill", Lucille, Rex, Ray, Schuyler "S.C." and Baby Davis. Two grandchildren, Michelle Renee Martin and Benjamin Grant Martin, preceded her in death as well as 1 great grand child, Laura Ann Martin. Margaret was also preceded in death by four half-brothers and two half-sisters.

She is survived by 3 children who were born into this union - Shirley Jean S. Martin and husband David Thomas Martin Statesville, NC, Joel Grant Souther and wife Karen Cheek Souther, Millers Creek, NC, and Denise Elizabeth S. Martin and husband Larry Samuel Martin, Hiddenite, NC.
Margaret was a lifelong member of Mt. Pisgah Baptist Church. She was a good sister, home maker, mother, grandmother, as well as an employee who worked outside the home at J.C. Penney Warehouse for 22 years when she retired.
She is also survived by five grandchildren, Christina (Christi) M. Thomas, Carisa S. Meade and husband Bradley, Samuel (Sammy) Davis Martin and wife Deree, Luke Stephen Martin and wife Jessica, and Todd Mathis and wife Lisa. Also surviving are 10 great grandchildren –Alex, Colin, Catherine, Audrey, Nathan, Slater, Alarie, Abigail, Lucian, and Amber. Numerous nieces and nephews are left to cherish many memories of Aunt Margaret and her delicious apple pies which she made for her family, many birthday celebrations, and family reunions
The family will receive friends Saturday, March 9, 2019 from 6 pm until 8 pm at Nicholson Funeral Home.
