Mansfield Ivery Ball, 84, of Statesville, passed away Monday, July 4, 2011, at his home surrounded by his family. Mr. Ball was born March 26, 1927 in Wilkes County and was the son of the late William Ivery Ball and Laura Marlow Ball. He attended Wilkes County Schools and on May 24, 1947, he was married to Geraldine Brotherton Ball. Mr. Ball was a veteran of World War II and retired from the North Carolina Department of Transportation as the Sign Director of Iredell County. He was a member of Cherry Grove Baptist Church where he served as a Deacon for many years. The big smiles, hugs and handshakes from our dad, granddad, and great-granddad will be greatly missed by all who knew him. In addition to his parents, Mr. Ball was also preceded in death by a son, Joey Ball, a grandson, Bryan Campbell, along with two brothers, Merlin and Ancil Ball and three sisters, Annie Childress, Gracie Smithey, and Viola Weaver. Along with his wife of 64 years, Mr. Ball is survived by two sons, Terry Ball (Carol) and Jerry Ball, (Doris) and two daughters, Laura Campbell (Jim) and Audrey Ketchie (Steve), all of Statesville. He is also survived by one grandson, Donavan Campbell, three granddaughters, Stephanie Campbell Wright (Rob), Tennille Kilby Cates (Brent), and Whitney Ball, all of Statesville. Two sisters, Minnie Millsaps of Hiddenite, N.C. and Dottie Stafford of Kannapolis along with one brother, Earl Ball of Wilkesboro also survive. Mr. Ball is also survived by one great-grandson, Ellis Cates and two great-granddaughters, Julia Cates and Anna Wright, all of Statesville.He is also survived by two step-grandchildren, Heather Barnette (Eddie), and Allison Cline (Jody) and 6 step-great-grandchildren. The family will visit with friends on Thursday from 6:00 until 8:00 pm at Nicholson Funeral Home. Funeral services will be conducted 2:30 pm Friday, July 8, 2011 at Cherry Grove Baptist Church with Rev. Philip Moore officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
