Mae Chatham

Mae Mahaffey Chatham, 87, of Union Grove, passed away Thursday, November 20, 2014 at Iredell Memorial Hospital. She was born in Wilkes County on September 16, 1927 to the late Floyd Taylor Mahaffey and Dolly Templeton Mahaffey. � Mrs. Chatham attended Union Grove High School and on May 22, 1943, she married William "Bill" Minford Chatham, who survives. She was retired from Journey's Nursing Home in Statesville. Along with her parents, she was preceded in death by five brothers, Virgil, Clifton, F.T., Ivery, and Luther Mahaffey, and one sister, Katherine M. Groose. In addition to Bill, her husband of 71 years, she is survived by a daughter, Sallie C. Nelson (Lonnie); three sons, William M. Chatham, Jr., Jeffrey M. Chatham, and Roger D. Chatham (Barbara); ten grandchildren, Hope Dula, Thomas Marlowe, Cecil Marlowe, Audrey C. Moose, Angie C. Anderson, Billy W. Chatham III, Chrisy C. Potts, Heather Chatham, Jeffrey M. Chatham Jr., and Hannah Chatham. She is further survived by 16 great grandchildren. Funeral services will be held 2:00 PM Sunday, November 23, 2014, in the Nicholson Funeral Home Chapel with Rev Don Myers and Rev. Mike Hill officiating. Burial will follow in the Scenic Memorial Gardens Cemetery in Wilkesboro, NC. The family will visit with friends Saturday evening from 6:00 until 8:00 PM at Nicholson Funeral Home.
