Lessie Luella Plyler King, 86, of Statesville, was called home on November 2, 2014. Luella, as she was lovingly called by family and friends, was born July 24, 1928 in Gastonia, NC to the late K.C. and Esther Bradley Plyler. Luella was preceded in death by her sister, Elsie Plyler, her brother, Bennett Plyler, her niece, Jean Gentry, and grandson, Richard Arnett Jr. She is survived by her husband of 57 years, John King Jr. as well as her four children, Judy Gemes and husband Gary of Charlotte, Robert King and wife Jackie, Tommy King and Richard King and wife Pam of Mooresville. In addition 6 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren, 1 great-great grandchild and numerous nieces and nephews survive Luella. Luella is also survived by many friends who will remember her as a person who enjoyed and lived life to the fullest. Some of her favorite activities included dancing, biking with her children, camping with friends, traveling with her husband, playing bingo and card games. Rarely seen without one of her many fashionable hats, Luella will be remembered by family and friends as the "HAT LADY". Luella was a member of Wesley United Methodist Church since 1966. She served on the Women's Council and helped with the Boy Scout Den associated with the church. Visitation for the King family will be from 1:00-2:00 on November 11, 2014 at Wesley United Methodist Church followed by a service celebrating the life of Luella King at 2:00 pm. Burial will follow at Snow Creek Methodist Church.
