THOMASVILLE-Mrs. Lucinda Merchant Cook, 86, of Thomasville, NC passed away April 17, 2021 at Hospice of the Piedmont in High Point, NC. Mrs. Cook was born January 1, 1935 to the late Adam and Estelle Lang Merchant in Pinewood, SC and married Evander Cook, Jr. She retired from Thomasville Furniture Industries after a 30-year career with them and went to work at Piedmont Crossing Retirement Center and retired from there after 8 years. Lucinda was a faithful member of Friendship Baptist Church, serving as a missionary and member of the choir, Pastor's Aid, and Women's Fellowship. She loved to cook, sit on her porch, and listen to gospel music. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Cook is preceded in death by her husband Evander Cook, Jr., two sisters Louise Hairston and Almetta Craddock. Left to cherish her memories are five children Willie Merchant (Sonia) of Thomasville, Cynthia Cook of Thomasville, Evangeline Cook (Sheffield Lawrence)of Thomasville, Evander Cook III (Rachel) of Jacksonville, FL, and Vander Cook of Conyers, GA; brother, Brook Thomas (Carolyn) of Thomasville, seven grandchildren, ten great-grandchildren, and Godson Michael Nelson. Mrs. Cook will lie in state at B&B Funeral and Cremation Services, 1528 National Highway, Thomasville, on Wednesday, April 21, 2021 from 1:00 pm to 5:00 pm. A private family burial will be held Thursday, April 22, 2021 at Thomasville City Cemetery.
