Lou (Myatt) Bell

Lou Myatt Bell, 87, of Statesville, passed away Tuesday, June 23, 2015 at the Gordon Hospice House.  She was born in Asheboro, NC on February 15, 1928 to the late Thomas Ernest and Lucile Scarboro Myatt. Mrs. Bell was a graduate of Asheboro High School and Salem College where she majored in music.  On December 3, 1949, she married Edward Ross Bell who preceded her in death on February 20, 1989.  They had almost 40 years of marriage before his passing.  She was a homemaker and was a member of Broad Street United Methodist Church where she was a member of the United Methodist Women and the Altar Guild, volunteered in the church office, and visited shut-ins for years.  She was very active in the community helping with Meals on Wheels, American Red Cross, United Way, and the Girl Scouts. Lou was an accomplished bridge player and was a member of the Brookdale Garden Club.  She loved spending time with family, traveling, and was a great cook. Along with her parents and husband, Ed, she was also preceded in death by a brother, Thomas Ernest Myatt, Jr. Left to cherish her memory are a son, Tim Bell (Ashley); a daughter, Annette Bell, both of Statesville; and two grandsons, Harrison Ross Bell and Andrew Johnson Bell, both of Raleigh, NC. Funeral services will be held 2:00 PM Friday, June 26, 2015 at Broad Street United Methodist Church with Rev. Dr. Michael J. Gehring officiating. There will be a private family burial at 1:00 PM at Oakwood Cemetery.  The family will receive friends Thursday evening from 5:30 PM until 8:00 PM at the residence of Tim and Ashley Bell, 3216 Innisbrook Road, Statesville, NC. Memorials may be made to Hospice and Palliative Care of Iredell, 2347 Simonton Road, Statesville, NC 28625 or the Broad Street UMC Back Pack Ministry, 315 West Broad Street, Statesville, NC 28677.
