Jean Clanton
Mrs. Lois (Jean) Shoemaker Clanton, 87, of Statesville, died Wednesday at her home. Born in Iredell County on December 10, 1930, she was a daughter of the late Troy Garland Shoemaker and Ziltha Matoka Sigmon Shoemaker. On May 24, 1986, she married James Donald Clanton who survives.
She was preceded in death by brothers: Bryce Shoemaker and Ray Sigmon and sisters, Helen Waugh and Lilly Huneycutt.
She was a charter member of Wesley Memorial United Methodist Church and was currently a member of Unity Baptist Church. She retired from O. W. Slane Glass Company as Secretary-Receptionist. She was a graduate of Scotts High School.
Survivors in addition to her husband, include a son, Michael W. Howard (Angela), of Myrtle Beach and a daughter, Gail D. Howard Templeton (Ron) of Durham along with 2 step daughters: Gina Adkins of South Brunswick, N.C. and Donna Stacy (Bryan) of Mesquite, Texas. Also surviving is a sister, Dorothy Shoemaker of Statesville. Also surviving are grandchildren: April Templeton of Mebane, N.C. Amber and Brandon Evans of Raleigh, Kevin and Malinda Templeton of Apex, N.C., Aaron Dalton of Myrtle Beach and Tracey Williamson of Beaufort, N.C.
Also surviving are great grandchildren: Elizabeth Gardner of Durham, Grayson, Ella and Charlotte Evans of Raleigh, Rosemary Templeton of Apex and Ava and Chloe Williamson of Beaufort, N.C. along with step grandchildren: Leanna and Ashley Adkins, Sara Stacy and Adam Robertson and a step great granddaughter, Amy Rose Jones.
Additional survivors include nieces: Jayne Cline, Sherry Combs, Glenda Failes and Joy Bacon and nephews: Richard Waugh, Gary Waugh and Ron Huneycutt.
A special Thank You is extended to Jayne Cline for her love and support during our mother’s illness and to Hospice of Iredell and our Mom’s nurse Brandi Harris.
The family will greet friends from 11:00 to 12:00 Friday at Nicholson Funeral Home. A private graveside service will be held at Iredell Memorial Gardens with Rev. James Keever officiating.
