Leroy “Cricket” Moose, Jr., 88, of Statesville, passed away, Sunday, August 28, 2016 at the Gordon Hospice House. Mr. Moose was born October 31, 1927 in Iredell County and was the son of the late Lee Roy Moose and Flossie Vinson Moose. He attended Scotts High School and on May 17, 1951, he was married to the late Carolyn Staples Moose, who passed away July 12, 2011. Mr. Moose served his country honorably in the US Army and was stationed in Germany during the Korean War. He was a life-long member of Concord Presbyterian Church, where he served as a Deacon and an Elder and on many other church committees. Cricket enjoyed traveling with his wife Carolyn, working in the garden, enjoyed family time and family gatherings and following the death of his son, Tim, he and Carolyn volunteered with Hospice and the Compassionate Friends Program. He retired from International Paper following 28 years of faithful service. Cricket is survived by two daughters, Janet Goforth (Ron) of Claremont, Debbie Fisher (Tim Starr) of Statesville, one grandson, Josh Fisher (Amanda) of Statesville, one great grandson Greyson Fisher of Statesville, one brother, Bobby Moose of Statesville, one sister, Judy Carter of Statesville, brother and sister-in-law, Steve and Diane Staples of Statesville, sister-in-law, Mary “Doll” Wilson of Virginia and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by a son, Tim Moose in 1990, two sisters, Geraldine Little, Lucille Walker and two brothers, Jack Moose and Harry “Tootie” Moose. Funeral services will be conducted 2:30 p.m. Thursday, September 1, 2016 at Concord Presbyterian Church with Rev. Kyle Goodman officiating. Burial with military honors provided by the North Iredell American Legion Post 113 will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends on Thursday at the Church from 1:00-2:30 p.m. Active pallbearers will be Randy Dellinger, Josh Fisher, Shane Staples, Tommy Stevenson, Chuck Shives and Frank Setzer.
