Lavina Carol Nelson, 50, of Mocksville, died unexpectedly on Monday, December 5, 2016, at her home. Carol was born in Alliance, OH, on November 9, 1966, and was the daughter of Margaret Thompson and the late Jerry Nelson.  She was a graduate of Oak Hill High School in Oak Hill, WV and attended University of Charleston. She was employed with Mariner Finance where she worked as assistant manager. In addition to her father, she was preceded in death by a son, Bobby Nelson, who passed away on November 3, 2013. Along with her mother Margaret Thompson, Carol is survived by her step mother, Alice Nelson, one sister, Lisa Blankschen (Robert) and a friend she considered as her sister, Tonia Horton (Quentin Anderson), both of Statesville along with three brothers Jerry Nelson (Vanessa) of Oak Hill, WV, Tommy Nelson of Mathias, WV, and Ray Ford (Sharon) of Newton.  She is also survived by 13 nephews, Corey, Jake, Luke, Noah, Hunter, Rusty, Timmy, Devin, Paxton, Ray, Michael, Robert, and Seth as well as six nieces, Jessica, Kristen, Amber, April, Natasha, and Allison.  She is further survived by 11 great nieces and nephews, Ethan, Maddie, Alyssa, Skyler, Aubree, Natalie, Caydence, Riley, Briceson, Tatiana, and Chelsea, her four-legged companion, Buttercup along with numerous other extended family. A memorial service honoring Carol’s life will be conducted 6:00 PM Wednesday, December 7, 2016, with a visitation immediately following in the Nicholson Funeral Home Chapel.
