Lathan Thomas Sharpe

July 9, 1951 — November 7, 2015

Lathan Thomas Sharpe, 64, of Statesville, passed away Saturday, November 7, 2015 at Forsyth Medical Center in Winston-Salem.  He was born in Iredell County on July 9, 1951 to the late Nathaniel and Gertrude Louise Griffin Sharpe. Mr. Sharpe attended Statesville City Schools and was married to Crystal Cowan Sharpe, who survives.  He was an equipment operator with Godfrey Lumber and was a member of Capernaum Church of Christ.  He loved fishing, his grandchildren, and talking and visiting.  He was a family man who was a great provider.  He loved gardening. Left to cherish his memory are his wife, Crystal; three step-sons, Joseph Cowan of Statesville, Stephen Cowan of Statesville, and Kevin Cowan of Winston-Salem; twelve grandchildren; a brother, Spencer Sharpe (Deb); two sisters, Patricia Glover (John) and Faye Garner (Red), all of Statesville; four brothers-in-law, Eric, Jeffery, Stanley, and Christopher Cowan; and three sisters-in-law, Jean Dulin, Lynn Cowan, and Shelia Cowan.  He is further survived by Jeffery T. Connor (Erica) and Carlos Conner along with a God-daughter, Tylisa Conner, all of whom Mr. Sharpe raised and considered them his children. Funeral services for Mr. Sharpe will be held 11:00 AM Friday, November 13, 2015 at Capernaum Church of Christ with Mr. Alan Brown officiating.  Burial will follow in the church cemetery.  The family will visit with friends Thursday evening from 6:00 until 8:00 PM at Nicholson Funeral Home. Memorials may be made to benefit the family at Nicholson Funeral Home, 135 E.
