Kenneth Perry Cartner, Sr.

Mr. Kenneth Perry (Shorty) Cartner, Sr., 71, of Harmony, died Thursday May 19, 2016 at the Kiser Hospice House in Salisbury. Born in Iredell County on July 24, 1944, he was a son of the late William Ray Cartner, Sr., and Nellie Jones Cartner. Mr. Cartner graduated from Harmony High School and owned and operated the family dairy farm, Raynell Dairy Farm until he retired in 2005. Mr. Cartner was a member of Clarksbury United Methodist Church and served on the Board Of Directors of the Yadkin Valley Telephone Membership Corp. for 38 years and Yadkin Valley Telecom for 16 of those years and served as Secretary Treasurer during many of his years of service. Mr. Cartner loved music, travel, dirt track racing and was a history buff. He also enjoyed NASCAR racing.  He was preceded in death by siblings: Elton Cartner Wright, William Ray Cartner, Jr., Richard (Sonny) Cartner, Robert Eugene (Gene) Cartner, Betty “Jim” Cartner Michael and Claire “Matt” Cartner Foster. Survivors include his former wife and best friend, Nancy Cartner, a daughter, Tammy Beck (David) of Mocksville, two sons, Kenny Cartner, Jr. and Michael Cartner (Jenny) all of Harmony, 10 grandchildren and 1 great grandchild. Also surviving are siblings, Tommy E. Campbell (Henry) and Jo Sees (John). Funeral services are scheduled for 1:00 Monday at Clarksbury United Methodist Church with Rev. Donnie Durham and Rev. Katie Lineberger officiating. Entombment will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 P.M. Sunday evening at Nicholson Funeral Home.
