Kay Ramsey King passed away peacefully at the Gordon Hospice House on April 7, 2019.
Kay was born April 15, 1947 in Statesville, NC and was the daughter of the late Charles Hugh Ramsey and Mary Corrine Reavis Ramsey.
Kay had a lifelong love of music of all kinds. She was the choir director/organist for Boulevard Methodist and later Christ Boulevard United Methodist Church for nearly forty years. For the past several years, she was the pianist for New Salem Presbyterian Church in Stony Point, NC.
Kay attended Mitchell Community College and Central Piedmont Community College. She accompanied the Mitchell student choir for many years and also conducted a senior choir, “The Joyful Noises”, for several years through Continuing Ed. She also accompanied voice students at Mitchell for many years.
Kay loved musical theater and for many years there was hardly a stage production performed in Statesville that she did not accompany on the piano. Kay was a charter member and Past President of Stagefront Music Theater. She was also active in Statesville Little Theater and McDowell Music Club. She was on the board of the Weekend in the Village street festival contracting several music groups to play downtown.
It was during her work in theater that she met the love of her life. Friendship blossomed into love and love blossomed into marriage. Frank King and Kay Ramsey were married on December 22, 1995.
From 1987 to the present, Frank and Kay attended stage productions and concerts too numerous to count or list.
Kay is survived by her husband, Frank, stepdaughter, Sara King Tomberlin (Jake), 2 grandchildren – Luke Tomberlin and Elizabeth McElwee Tomberlin, one brother Lloyd Ramsey (Janice), nephew Adam Ramsey (Angela), niece Jennifer Ayers(Daniel) and her adored great nephews Micah and Willy and great nieces Eva, Montgomeri and Jacqueline and many, many cousins that she dearly loved.
There will be a celebration of Kay’s life at New Salem Presbyterian Church in Stony Point on Thursday, April 11, 2019. The family will speak with friends for one hour prior to the celebration of life.
