Kathleen (Bowers) Lackey

Sarah “Kathleen” Bowers Lackey, loving referred to as Mama Lackey, 92, of Statesville, passed away, Saturday, January 13, 2018 at Maple Leaf Health Care. Mrs. Lackey was born December 1, 1925 in Iredell County and was the daughter of the late Andrew Preston Bowers and Mary Lou Lundy Bowers. She was a graduate of D. Matt Thompson High School and was married to the late James Russell Lackey, who passed away in 1989. She worked for Iredell Finishing Company and other hosiery mills in Statesville, was a member of First Baptist Church and was a lifetime member of the VFW Ladies Auxiliary, Post #2031. Mrs. Lackey is survived by her daughter, Lou Lackey Lee of Statesville, her grandson, Preston Martin Lee and wife, Jessica of Statesville and two great grandchildren, Tristan James Lee and Kennedy Rae Lee. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by two brothers, Paul Bowers, Perry Bowers and a son-in-law, William “Gene” Lee in 2010. A memorial service will be held at 5:00p.m. on Thursday, January 18, 2018 in the Nicholson Funeral Home Chapel. The family will visit with friends after the service at Nicholson Funeral Home.
