John Henry Simmerman, Jr., 84, of Statesville, passed away July 4, 2011 at Gordon Hospice House following a period of declining health. Mr. Simmerman was born November 3, 1926 and he was the son of the late John Henry Simmerman, Sr., and Nellie Grooms. He was married to Dorothy Kelley Simmerman who preceded him in death on October 2010. He was a veteran of the U.S. Marine Corps and served during World War II. Survivors include his sons, David E. Simmerman (Loretta) of Hiddenite and Paul K. Simmerman (Jane) of Longs, S.C.; five grandchildren, John H. Simmerman IV (Leslie) of Statesville, Carla Beaver (Josh) of Cleveland, Mark Simmerman of Statesville, Elisha S. Clark (Rory) of Mooresville, Claire Simmerman of Longs, S.C.; three great-grandchildren, Hannah, Gage, and Brady Beaver, all of Statesville. He was preceded in death by his oldest son, John H. Simmerman, III and his daughter-in-law, Starr, J. Simmerman. A private graveside service will be conducted 10:00 am Friday, July 8, 2011 in the Oakwood Cemetery with Chaplin Tom Corbell and Lynn Kunkle officiating.
