Robert Andrew "Junior" Jones, Jr, 67, of Statesville, passed away Monday, October 14, 2013, at Select Specialties in the Forsyth Medical Center in Winston-Salem. Mr. Jones was born June 1, 1946 in Iredell County and was the son of the late Robert Andrew Jones, Sr. and Zetta Mae Reid Jones. He was a graduate of Troutman High School. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army where he served during the Vietnam War as a helicopter gunner. While he was in the military, he was awarded the National Defense Service Medal and the Sharpshooter Badge. April 2, 2010, he married Willie Mae Welborn Jones, who survives. Mr. Jones was a member of Fairview Baptist Church where he specialized in Sunday morning coffee making and was a greeter. He was previously employed with Cavin Cook Funeral Home, the Mooresville Police Dept and the Iredell County Sheriff's Deputy before going to work with Nicholson Funeral Home, where he retired. In addition to his parents, Mr. Jones was preceded in death by three brothers, Dale, Jimmy, and Tommy Jones. He is survived by his wife, Willie Mae Welborn Jones of the home, three sons, Robert Arthur Ward of Troutman, William Todd Ward (Marlana) of Statesville, and Matt Edward Stanley, of Tega-Kay, SC; three daughters, Jennifer Lynn Wilson, (Mark) of Statesville, Tamera Stanley Birch of Statesville and Jill Stanley Frye (Steve) of Hickory. He is also survived by six grandsons, Weston Darfler, Gaither Frye, Patrick Callnin, Brian Stanley, Joshua Stanley and Kace Wilson along with nine granddaughters, Anna Lea Darfler, Katie Wilson, Meagan Ward, Kayla Wilson, Kristen Wilson, Ashlyn Stanley, Rachelle Kimbrell, Emma Frye and Elyssa Ward. He is further survived by three brothers, Johnny Jones (Debbie), Paul Jones (Lynda), and Billy Jones (Gail), all of Statesville and one sister, Annie Alexander (Roger) Mooresville. A number of nieces and nephews also survive. Funeral services for Mr. Jones will be conducted 2:00 pm Friday, October 18, 2013, at Fairview Baptist Church with Dr. Scott Eanes and Rev. Paul Hill officiating. Burial with full military honors will be at Oakwood Cemetery. The family will visit with friends from 12:30 until 2:00 pm at the church.
