On Saturday, February 18, Joy Grace Smith, loving wife, mother and grandmother, peacefully went to be with the Lord at the age of 82. Joy was born May 1, 1940, in Upper Darby, Pa. She graduated from Lansdown Aldan High School and was a homemaker. On May 6, 1961, Joy married Ken Smith. They raised two children, Amy Joy and Daniel Paul.
Joy was known as a compassionate, kind, loving person. She was a Christian and loved her Savior the Lord Jesus Christ her whole life. She had a passion for young people and was active for many years in the Pioneer Girls ministry at Aldan Union Church. Joy had a love of flowers, handcrafted wreaths and topiaries and she loved to travel with her husband, Ken, in their RV. Joy was known for her love and tenderheartedness especially for those who were hurting. She loved to give gifts to people and always had time to tenderly care and faithfully pray for those around her who were struggling. She touched and influenced many lives over the course of her life.
Joy was preceded in death by her Husband Kenneth; her parents, Grace and Bill Snider; her daughter, Amy Rivera; and, her granddaughter, Jayna Rachel May. She is survived by her sister, Ruth Baxter; son-in-law, Michael Rivera; son Daniel; daughter-in-law, Susan; grandchildren, Daniel, William, Samuel, Juliana, Jeremiah, Meilyn; and many nieces and nephews.
The family will be holding a private memorial service for Joy. The family request no flowers and in lieu of flowers, they are requesting that memorial donations be made to the Aldan Union Church missionary fund (
