Rev. Jones Cephas “J.C.” Souther, 88, of Mooresville, died Friday, December 30, 2016, at Iredell Memorial Hospital. Rev. Souther was born in Wilkes County, NC on June 12, 1928 and was the son of the late William Henry Souther and Dorinda “Rindy” Mary Moore Souther. He attended Wilkes County schools and graduated from the Charlotte Bible School. On February 21, 1948, he married the love of his life, Harriett Miller Souther and together they shared 68 years of marriage until her death on November 28, 2016. Rev. Souther was a member of Mt. Mourne Church of God. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army. J.C. was a strong man of God and dedicated his life to the ministry having served for 50 years. In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by two sisters, Blanche S. Hager and Geraldine S. Wagner. Rev. Souther is survived by one daughter, Shirley Diane Souther of Kannapolis, two sons, Gerald Souther (Dottie) of Mooresville, Dwain Souther (Glenda) of Mooresville; three grandchildren, Dorinda Lambirth, LeAnne Hurley (Matt), Lakisha Harrelson (James); great grandchildren, Leeanna Lambirth, Dakotah Lambirth, Ethan Hurley, Dustin Hurley (Hailey), one great great grandson, Riley Hurley and one sister, Dare S. Felts of N. Wilkesboro and one brother, Vernon Souther (Carolyn) of Albemarle, NC. Funeral services will be conducted 1:00 p.m. Tuesday, January 3, 2017, at Mt. Mourne Church of God with Pastor Donald Caldwell and Rev. Lawrence Owenby officiating. Burial with full military honors will follow in the Iredell Memorial Gardens Cemetery. The family will visit with friends on Tuesday from 11:30 am until 1:00 p.m. at the church. Active pallbearers will be Tommy Jones, Matt Hurley, Ernest Morgan, Bryan Souther, Dennis Souther and Charlie Lamb.
