John Sherman Smith

John Sherman Smith, 68, of Statesville, passed away, Friday, October 9, 2015 at Wake Forest University Medical Center in Winston-Salem, following injuries related to an accident.             Mr. Smith was born July 7, 1947 in Rowan County and was raised by Edward and Frances Bruce in Statesville. He attended Statesville City Schools and was attending Mitchell Community College. He formerly worked for Boulevard Grocery, Boulevard Grill and Uniglass Industries. He also was a beloved member of Broad Street United Methodist Church.             He is survived by three nieces, April Schronce of Statesville, Ashley Barnes of Harmony, Candace Bruce of Statesville, one nephew, Brandon Bruce of Florida and other cousins and relatives. He is further survived by his Plaza Apartment friends.             Funeral services will be conducted 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, October 14, 2015 at Broad Street United Methodist Church with Rev. Dr. Michael Gehring officiating. Burial will follow in Oakwood Cemetery.             Nicholson Funeral Home is serving the family of John Smith.
