John Phillips

Mr. John Pines Phillips, 86, of Troutman, passed away, Tuesday, Feb. 22, 2011 at Iredell Memorial Hospital. Mr. Phillips was born June 28, 1924 in Anson County, NC and was the son of the late Bun and Sallie Gilmore Phillips. He attended Anson County Schools and on August 2, 1947, he was married to the late Louise Abernathy Phillips, who died Feb. 7, 2008. He retired in 1989 from Phillips Construction and was a member of Diamond Hill Baptist Church. Mr. Phillips is survived by two sons, Dean Phillips of Barium Springs, Andy L. Phillips of Statesville, two granddaughters, Brandon N. Sweagan, Christy Phillips and two sisters, Weasie Eudy of Wadesboro and Margie Sharpe of Statesville. In addition to his parents and wife, Mr. Phillips was preceded in death by four brothers, Clayton, William, Earl Gene, James (Pegg) Phillips and five sisters, Callie Mae Carpenter, Nell Bailey, Ruby Preslar, Hallie Tarlton and Flonnie Lee (Pete) Hinson. Graveside funeral services will be conducted 3:00 p.m. Friday at Iredell Memorial Gardens with Rev. William Wease officiating. Burial will follow the graveside service. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Hospice and Palliative Care of Iredell Coutny, 2347 Simonton Rd., Statesville, NC 28625. Nicholson Funeral Home is serving the family.
