Greensboro

John (Johnny) Greene passed away peacefully surrounded by family on Wednesday February 5, 2025. Johnny had been in declining health for a couple of years but was diagnosed in December with pancreatic cancer, which he could not overcome.

Johnny was born in Guilford County on September 21, 1941 to his parents John Blaire Greene and Marguritte Parks O'Briant. He attended Sumner High School and Guilford College where he earned his degree in Engineering.

Johnny worked for Contractor Service Rentals for many years in sales, and was one of their top salesmen. He later found his niche in the Telecommunications field, and working with fiberoptic cable. He began a career as a Project Manager and Engineer doing government work primarily on military bases all over the United States as well as Germany, Korea, and Afghanistan.

Johnny was an avid golfer, fisherman and loved napping to the Nascar races. He enjoyed scouring flea markets for Nascar memorabilia and loved watching his two favorite sports teams the Carolina Panthers and the Duke Blue Devils. He and Brenda enjoyed traveling, going to concerts, casinos and especially spending time at the beach with dear friends.

Johnny was a member of Alamance Presbyterian Church and loved his church family. He along with other volunteers helped organize the annual golf tournament raising money for various charities in addition to the church's food pantry. He thoroughly enjoyed his time attending the monthly men's meeting where he shared fellowship and food, except for chicken.

Johnny was a member of The Loyal Order of Moose Lodge, #685 and the Benevolent & Protective Order of Elk, Lodge #1037.

In addition to his parents Johnny was preceded in death by his daughter and son-in-law Ebbie Dawn and Mike Shirley, great grandson Zachary Todd Greene and a step son Robert Michael Stevens.

Johnny is survived by his wife Brenda Stevens Greene, four sons, Scott Greene (Wanda) of Southmont, NC, Michael Lynn Greene (Kathy) of McLeansville, NC, Kelly Todd Greene and Brian Forrest Greene both of Greensboro, NC., stepson Darren Stevens (Sally) of Franklinville, NC and stepdaughter Sandra Caffee Moore (Tony) of Smithville, TN., eight grandchildren, five bonus grandchildren, and fourteen great grandchildren. Johnny also leaves behind their fur babies, Ellie Mae and Little Lucy.

One of Johnny's favorite sayings was "It is what it is". Even though Johnny will be deeply missed and loved by those who knew him, let us always remember as we go through our daily lives and especially the trials and tribulations, "It is what it is".

A service of remembrance will be held March15th at 2:00 at Alamance Presbyterian Church. The family will receive friends in the Gathering Room following the service.

The family would like to extend a special thank you to Johnny's primary physician, Dr. Graham Duncan, who was not only his physician but a special friend to Johnny.

The family requests that memorial contributions be made to Alamance Presbyterian Church Operating Fund and to Cancer Researchfor Pancreatic Cancer.
