Mr. John Wayne Estes, 68, of Statesville, died December 25, 2014 at his home. Born May 7, 1946 in Iredell County, he was a son of the late Claude Estes and Georgia Hefner Estes. He attended Christ Independent Baptist Church and retired after 38 years of service as an upholsterer from Thomasville Furniture Company, formerly Gilliam Furniture. He attended Central School. He loved going to church, fishing and hunting and enjoyed repairing small engines. He was preceded in death by a sister, Claudine Link and three brothers, Stoney and Fred Estes and Dewey Hefner. On June 4, 1964, he married the former Alma Lou Johnson who survives. Also surviving are a son, Claude Wayne Estes (Sunny Lynn) of Statesville, a daughter, Tammie Estes Gillespie (Timothy) of Statesville, grandsons Teddy Wayne Charles, his wife Cory and son Jacob of Kannapolis and Tanner Luke Southard of Statesville, a granddaughter, Rebecca Chase Gillespie of Statesville and a great grandson, Jacob Charles. Also surviving are a brother, Claude Estes, Jr., and sisters, Sue Gwaltney, Edna Shoemaker and Dorothy Inscoe all of Statesville. Services celebrating Mr. Estes' life will be conducted at 2:00 P.M. Sunday December 28, 2014 at the Nicholson Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Clarence Cloer and Rev. Marsha Joyner officiating. Burial will follow in the Sandy Ridge Methodist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends Saturday evening from 6:00 until 8:00 PM at Nicholson Funeral Home. Condolences may be sent online to the family to www.nicholsonfunerals.com .
