John Walter Dashkavich, age 71, formerly of Boone, NC, passed away on Friday, June 16, 2023, at Hospice of Davidson County. Born on July 20, 1951, in Long Branch (Monmouth County), NJ, was the son of the late John and Lois Sodon Dashkavich.
John was a graduate of High Point University where he received his degree in Business and Foreign Language. He was fluent in both Spanish and Portuguese. John was multi-talented with a beautiful singing voice and an avid guitarist.
In New Jersey, he was a member of the Fare Share Band, which had a great following. During his career, John was a master leather craftsman. He donated and volunteered countless hours to the New Jersey State Police Department, which was his favorite charity. Following the tragedy of 9/11, he worked and repaired horse harness, tack, and saddles for the horses of the New York State Police Department. John also worked as an underwriter on Wall Street for many years.
He was a great chef who could be described as one who made "cooking look easy." John and his wife, Charlotte owned and operated two restaurants, Cherry Grove Deli, which was a New York Style Deli in Cherry Grove, NC and Manna Cafe in Leesville, SC, which was a "Farm to Table" restaurant. They also owned Charlotte's Web General Store in Boone, NC where most was all natural and from John's personal recipes.
John was preceded in death by his parents, John and Lois Sodon Dashkavich. Those left to cherish his memory include his wife of 12 years, Charlotte Stewart Dashkavich; his children, Craig Dashkavich and wife, Chrissy, Jana Armbruster and husband, RJ, and step-son Michael Huneycutt and wife Lauren; grandchildren, Connor Dashkavich, Colin Dashkavich, Evan Armbruster, Jordan Armbruster, Devin Huneycutt and his wife, Jordon, and Maddie McLaurin and husband, Michael; great-grandchildren, Demi Jane Huneycutt, and MJ McLaurin; his sister, Linda Supienski and her husband, Vincent "Whitey"; nieces and nephews, James "Jim" Homiak and wife, Janine, Alyson Sheehan and husband, Brian, and Lauren Aravich and husband, Kenny; and 12 great-nieces and great-nephews.
John was a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and brother. He never met a stranger and will be missed by many.
A Celebration of Life for his local family and friends will be held on Saturday, July 22nd from 4:00pm to 7:00pm at Badin Shores Clubhouse, 1 Clubhouse Drive, New London, NC for his local family and friends in North Carolina and on Saturday, August 19th (time TBD) at All Saints Memorial Church "the Stone Church" 202 Navesink Ave., Atlantic Highlands, NJ for his local family and friends in New Jersey.
