John Lewis Childers

November 20, 1934 — March 11, 2015

Mr. John Lewis Childres, 80, of Statesville, died Wednesday, March 11, 2015 in his home.             Mr. Childers was born November 20, 1934 in Iredell County and was the son of the late Rodney Owens Childers and Sadie Elizabeth Hoyle Childers. He attended Iredell County schools and served in the US Army during the Korean War as a M41 Bulldog Tank Driver. He then worked as a produce manager at A&P until his retirement.             In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Thomas Holton, brother, Haywood Childers and his sisters, Lois Childers, Flossie Pearson, Kathleen Wilkinson, Louise Kitchings and Betty Sloan.             Mr. Childers is survived by his daughter, Donna Billings, son-in-law, Randy Billings, grandson, Thomas Billings and friend, Renee Predgo, granddaughter, Mary Billings and friend, Stephen Hart and a number of nieces and nephews.             A service of remembrance will be held 3:00 p.m. Sunday, March 15, 2015 at Rose Chapel Methodist Church with Rev. Ralph Lepley officiating. Burial will follow in Oakwood Cemetery. The family will visit with friends on Sunday from 2:00-3:00 p.m. at the church. Active pallbearers will be Thomas Billings, Stephen Hart, Wyatt Joyner, Mike Billings, Gilbert Peacock and Junior Stafford.             Memorials may be made to Rose Chapel Methodist Church, 813 Turnersburg Hwy., Statesville, NC 28625 and online condolences may be made to the family at www.nicholsonfunerals.com Nicholson Funeral Home is serving the family.
