Joan Smith Hall, 81, of Statesville, passed away Friday, January 17, 2014, following a brief illness. Joan was born August 2, 1932, in Missouri, the only child of the late Joseph E. Smith and Margaret Brown Smith Hardacre. In 1950 she married Thomas "Tom" A. Hall, who proceeded her in death in 2000. A member of Monticello United Methodist Church. She was a homemaker. She enjoyed country cooking, the fine art of quilting and teaching others that skill. She is survived by daughters; Carolyn H. Sherrill (Reggie), of Statesville; Sandra H. Bollinger (Dennis), of Hickory; and son Thomas "Tommy" F. Hall (Mary Carol) of Statesville. Three grandchildren, D. Shay Bollinger, of Hudson; Amanda B. Helms (Nick), of Hickory; and Lee Ann Sherrill, of Statesville. Two great-grandsons, Thomas Shay Helms and James Allen Helms, of Hickory. Brother-in-law Clyde W. Moore (Jo), of Statesville; Three nieces Susan H. Watt, Claudia M. Green, Julia Moore; and numerous great nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held at Bright Light Baptist Church, 478 Trinity Road, Statesville at 2 p.m. on Monday, January 20. Revs. Brian Eades and Keith Bowman officiating. Burial will follow in church cemetery. Family will receive friends at Sunday afternoon at Bright Light Baptist Church from 3 to 5 p.m. Memorials may be given to the charity of the donor's choice.
