Jerry Lee Johnson, 76, of Statesville, went home to be with his Lord and Savior on Wednesday, November 18, 2015 at the Gordon Hospice House. Born in Alexander County on January 27, 1939, he was a son of the late Graham and Grace Sherrill Johnson. Jerry graduated from Stony Point High School where he was a noted baseball player and married Nora Prichard, who survives. He was a dedicated member of the National Guard for 8 years. Jerry was a member of New Amity ARP Church where he served many years as deacon and elder. He was retired from Pepsi Cola after 35 years followed by 20 years with Bell Construction Company. Jerry enjoyed gardening and sharing the fruits of his labor, classic cars, the outdoors, and helping others. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one brother, Billy Ray Johnson and a nephew, Jermiah Mitchell along with his paternal grandparents, Ervin and Mary Johnson and maternal grandparents, Roy and Illa Sherrill. Survivors in addition to his wife are daughters, Lisa Duncan, (Jimmy), Donna Johnson, and Debbie Johnson Hager, and one granddaughter, Jennifer Fox (Marty), all of Statesville. Also surviving are his brother, Bruce Johnson (Carolyn); sister, Diane Mull (Greg) of Taylorsville; and numerous nephews, nieces, cousins, and special family friends, Wayne Stout and Judy Hager. Services celebrating Jerry’s life will be conducted Sunday, November 22, 2015 at 3:00 PM by Rev. Dr. Earl Linderman and Rev. Robert Sherer at New Amity ARP Church. The family will visit with friends at the church from 2:00 until 3:00 PM. Services will begin at 3:00 PM with internment in the church cemetery with full military honors provided by the Iredell County Veterans Burial Detail. Active pallbearers will be Mike Honeycutt, Keith Sherrill, Bryant Chapman, Matthew Jones, Mike Johnson, and Jeff Martin. Honorary pallbearers will be employees of Bell Construction Company.
