Mrs. Jean Barkley Stevenson Jackson, 85, of Statesville, passed away peacefully in her sleep Tuesday, Feb. 8, 2011 at Iredell Memorial Hospital following a period of declining health. Mrs. Jackson was born September 20, 1925 in Randolph County, WV and was the daughter of the late Fred O. Barkley and Barbara Powers Barkley Knox. She was a graduate of Elkins High School in W.V. and was first married to the late William F. "Bill" Stevenson. She later remarried the late George E. Jackson and was a member of Wesley Memorial United Methodist Church. She was retired from Brenton Textiles, a day care operator, grocery store operator and owner and operator of Jeannie's and Emery's Restaurant in Mooresville. She was an avid gardener, accomplished seamstress and fed multitudes with her wonderful homecooking. She was a kind and generous lady who was loved by all who knew her. Mrs. Jackson is survived by one daughter, Linda S. Gladden (Robert) of Statesville, two sons, Mark Stevenson (Ena) of Statesville, Gregg Stevenson (Jean) of Statesville, grandchildren, Karen S. Skeens of Salem, SC, Marc Renee Tolle (Brent) of Taylorsville, KY, Gregg Stevenson, Jr. of Pikeville, NC, Derek Stevenson (Jatana) of Statesville, Krista Bolick (Shane) of Statesville, Spencer Stevenson and fianc�, Ashley High and Jamie Reynolds (Corey) of Statesville. She is further survived by six great grandchildren and was eagerly looking fowrad to the birth of her 7 great grandchild, many loving nieces and nephews and two sisters, Phyllis Houston (LG) of Statesville, Mary Hedenskog (Robert) of Norwood, NC. In addition to her husbands, she was preceded in death by one great grandson, Robert W. Stevenson, three brothers, Donald L. Barkley, Kenneth Ray Barkley, Robert O. Barkley and two sisters, Kathleen B. Hutto and Helen B. Scott. Funeral services will be conducted 2:30 p.m. Saturday at Wesley Memorial United Methodist Church with Rev. Karen Miller and Rev. Gervase Hitch officiating. Burial will follow in Iredell Memorial Gardens Cemetery. Active pallbearers will be Gregg Stevenson, Jr., Derek Stevenson, Spencer Stevenson, Shane Bolick, Corey Reynolds and Brent Tolle. The family will receive friends on Saturday from 1:00-2:30 at the church and at other times at the Jackson residence each night after 5:00 p.m. Flowers are welcome, but memorials may be made to Wesley Adult Fellowship c/o Wesley Memorial United Methodist Church, 815 Wesley Dr., Statesville, NC 28677 or to Hospice and Palliative Care of Iredell County, 2347 Simonton Rd., Statesville, NC 28625.
