Miss Janie Mae DePugh

July 31, 1942 — October 4, 2022

Miss Janie Mae DePugh was born in Darlington County, South Carolina on July 31, 1942. A daughter of the late Dan DePugh and Pearl Benton DePugh. Janie gained her wings on Tuesday evening, October 4, 2022, while a patient at Atrium Health Wake Forest High Point Medical Center.
She received her formal education in the Darlington County Public Schools. Later Janie worked as a home health attendant in New York. She moved to Thomasville in her early 20’s and later relocated back to New York. Janie was a member of Sheridan Baptist Church in Bronx, NY. She served on the Senior Usher Board. After returning to Thomasville in 2002 she joined Union Baptist Church. She really enjoyed Sunday School, the preaching, and the choirs singing. This is when she got her "rockin-on." Janie served on the Senior Usher Board and the Kitchen Committee. She attended church faithfully until her health declined. One of her favorite things was going to K&W after church with her friends and staying there for hours talking.
We all knew not to call her while her soaps were on television because she would rush you off the phone or didn’t have much to say. She loved to watch Family Feud and sitcoms.
Janie Mae loved her family. All she talked about was her kids and grandkids. They meant the world to her. When she moved back to Thomasville, her children remained in New York, but you would have thought they were right with her.
Janie is preceded in death by one son, Gary DePugh; sister, Floria; brothers, Willie James, J.C., Richard, Leroy; son-in-law, Robert; and brother-in-law, Donald Whitmore. Left to cherish her memory are her loving children, sons, William (Sonia) DePugh, James DePugh; daughter, Jeline Williams all of Bronx, New York. Also, ten grandchildren, Aisa, Tyrese, Jalissa, Tyquan, Robert, Gabielle, Clifton, Jalina, Jamezie and Jamal. Nine great grandchildren, one Godson, Xaiver Lowery. Her sisters, Ms. D’neta Whitmore, Mrs. Alice Allen; brothers, Mr. Freddie Alford, Mr. Dan DePugh, James DePugh, Edward DePugh; several nieces, nephews, and other relatives. Her special friends that were always there for her, Teresa Sanders, Marlon Clay, James Williams and Eddie Ross.
Janie, you kept saying you were tired, now you can rest in peace without any more ongoing pain.
A Homegoing Celebration for Janie will be held 1:00 pm, Tuesday, October 11, 2022, at Union Baptist Church with Pastor Brandon Austin officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church beginning at 12:00 pm.
