Mrs. Janet Pauline Mayes Haire, 78, of Statesville, passed away Friday, December 1, 2017, at Autumn Care in Statesville. Mrs. Haire was born in Iredell County on August 30, 1939, and was the daughter of the late Joseph Burette Mayes, Sr. and Rachel Pauline Crouch Mayes. She was a graduate of Cool Spring School and in 1959, she married Walter Eugene “Gene” Haire, who preceded her in death on January 3, 2017. Prior to her retirement, Mrs. Haire worked as a certified medical assistant with Iredell Memorial Hospital, Dr. John Hardaway, MD and Dr. Andy White, MD. Janet was a lifetime member of New Salem UMC. As a lifetime member, she gave her life to the church and to the Lord. She took part in serving the Lord in many areas of the church. She was also a lifetime member of Methodist Women, sang in the choir for many years as well as serving in other offices and outreaches. She was a woman who was loved by many and will be truly missed by all who knew her. Left to cherish her memory are two sons, Durant Haire of Statesville and Lee Haire (Jennifer) of Union Grove. She is also survived by four grandchildren, Salem, Stokes, Caitlin, and Will Haire along with one sister, Joyce M. Bradburn (Freddy) of Statesville, one brother, Joe Mayes of Gastonia, a special daughter, Trevla Pulliam, and a special friend Naomi Stikeleather. A host of nieces, nephews and cousins, all of which she shared a special bond, also survive. A memorial service celebrating the life of Janet Haire will be conducted at 3:00 PM Sunday, December 3, 2017, at the New Salem UMC with Rev. Keith Franklin officiating.
