Rev. Dr. James S. White, 86, of Statesville, passed away, Tuesday, October 10, 2017 at the Gordon Hospice House. Rev. White was born August 5, 1931 in Statesville, NC to the late Alonzo Lee White and Jettie Queen White. He served in the US Army for 2 years and on July 26, 1959, he was married to Hannah Gilleland White, who survives of the home. He was a graduate of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, received his Master of Divinity at Duke Divinity School and his Doctor of Religion at Geneva College. He was a retired United Methodist Minister after serving 50 years in Western North Carolina at eight different churches. Serving as Pastor was the greatest joy of his life. For 16 years, he enjoyed having a volunteer ministry at Maple Leaf Health Care Center. In addition to his wife, he is survived by one daughter, Jennifer Miller of Morganton, NC and one son, Wesley White of Statesville. He was preceded in death by five brothers and one sister. Funeral services will be held 2:00 p.m. Thursday, October 12, 2017 at Christ Boulevard United Methodist Church with Rev. Larry Thompson and Rev. Bob Clanton officiating. Burial will follow in the Olin Cemetery. The family will visit with friends on Thursday at the church from 1:00-2:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Christ Boulevard UMC or to the Gordon Hospice House.
