James Henry Summers

Mr. James Henry (Jim) Summers, 86, of Statesville, died Wednesday, July 26, 2017 at Maple Leaf Health Care in Statesville. Born in Iredell County on May 3, 1931, he was a son of the late Henry Clay Summers and Ila Stikeleather Summers. He was preceded in death by a sister, Ann Crawford and a sister-in-law, Betty Morrison Summers. Jim was a member of New Amity A.R.P. Church where he was a former Elder. He was a former band director and teacher at Alexander Central High School. He was an engineer and was retired from J.C. Penny Warehouse Division. He was the Senior Class President at Scotts High School in 1949 and graduated from Appalachian State University. He also served in the U. S. Army. Survivors include his wife, the former Dorothy Morrison, sons: Wesley J. Summers of Statesville, C. Michael Summers (Debbie) of Blue Springs, Missouri and Robert H. Summers (Tracy) of Olathe, Kansas. Also surviving are grandchildren: Michael D.J. Summers, Anthony G. Summers, C. Christopher Summers, Elijah H. Summers, Amanda Christine S. Westcott, Josey Bree Summers and Andi Elisabeth Summers. Additional survivors include a brother, William (Bill) Summers and a sister, Elizabeth S. Smith. Services celebrating Jim’s life will be conducted at 11:00 A.M. Monday, July 31, 2017 at New Amity A.R.P. Church with Rev. Dr. Earl Linderman and Rev. Robert Sherer officiating. The family will visit with friends at the church for one hour prior to the service.  Burial will follow in the church cemetery with full military rites presented by the North Iredell American Legion Post # 113.
