James Reid "Jackie" Skeen Jr

James Reid “Jackie” Skeen Jr, 77, of Statesville, went home to meet Jesus, his Lord and Savior on August 6, 2019 at his home after an extended illness.
Born on December 12, 1941 in Iredell County, he was the son to the late James Reid “Jack” and Lillian Gantt Skeen. Jackie along with his siblings were raised by their grandparents, the late, Estelle and Shorty Gantt. He retired from South Eastern Freight and spent more than 50 years as a truck driver. Jackie loved to golf, fish, spend time with his family at their home in the mountains and attend Church in the Wildwood in Traphill, NC.
In addition to his parents and grandparents he is preceded in death by his brother, Bobby Gantt.
Left to cherish his loving memory is his wife of 57 years, Carolyn Hunter Skeen; daughter, Christina Skeen Layfield and grandson, William Reid Layfield.
A celebration of life will be held on August 24, 2019 at 6:00 PM in the chapel of Nicholson Funeral Home.
In lieu of flowers Jackie’s request was for memorials be made to St. Jude Children’s Hospital, 501 St Jude Place Memphis, TN 38105.
