James Peeler

Mr. James Augustus Peeler, 99, of Statesville and formerly of Kannapolis, passed away March 15, 2011 at Maple Leaf Health Care in Statesville. He was born Feb. 15, 1912 in China Grove, NC and was the son of the late Harvey J. Peeler and Pattie Kirk Peeler. He was a graduate of A.L. Brown High School and on Sept. 15, 1931, he was married to the late Julie Troutman Peeler, who died on May 12, 1990. He was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church and was a retired co-owner of Julie Peeler Ltd. Mr. Peeler is survived by one sister, Betty Sue Schiefer of Boynton Beach, FL, one son-in-law, Robert B. Conkey of Indian Land, SC, seven grandchildren, James L. Gillon, Marc L. Gillon (Linda), Barbara E. Perry (Stephen), Charles S. Gillon (Belinda), W. Kirk Gillon, Mary Conkey Fullington (Kevin), Kathleen Conkey Winkowsia (David), 15 great grandchildren and many nieces, nephews, grand nieces and grand nephews. In addition to his wife and parents, Mr. Peeler was preceded in death by three daughters, Barbara P. Gillon on Feb. 22, 2011, Jacqueline P. Conkey in 2001, Julie P. Evans in 1989, one son-in-law, Charles L. Gillon, one sister, Della P. Myers and five brothers, Harvey Peeler, Shuford Peeler, Eugene Peeler, H.J. Peeler, Jr. and William Peeler. Funeral services will be conducted 2:00 p.m. Sunday, March 20, 2011 at St. John's Lutheran Church with Pastor Ron Orovitz officiating. Burial will follow in Oakwood Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Saturday evening 6:00-8:00 p.m. at Nicholson Funeral Home. Active pallbearers will be Jim Gillon, Marc Gillon, Charles Gillon, John Gillon, William Foust and Marcus Gillon.
