James "Junior" Matthews Jr.

James Calvin “Junior” Matthews, Jr., 63 of Statesville died Tuesday, February 16, 2021.
He was born in Iredell County on September 28, 1957 to the late James Calvin Matthews, Sr., and Virginia Gilland Matthews. He was also preceded in death by a sister, Pam Matthews and a half-brother, Willie Matthews.
He had been a Deacon at Circle L Cowboy Church and sang in the choir. He was named Driver of the Year for Carpet Rentals. Junior loved helping people. He enjoyed working on cars or anything mechanical. He loved model cars, vegetable and flower gardening, animals, and spending time on the farm with Laurie. He had also worked as a bouncer.
Those left to cherish his memory are his wife, Laurie Simmons Matthews, son, James Daniel Matthews (Katie), daughter, Kelly Waugh (Michael), a sister, Paulette Moore, special friends/family, Kirby, Chesley and Katie Nash and Sheryl Lucas.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held Sunday, February 21, 2021 at 4:00 pm at the Nicholson Funeral Home Chapel. The family will visit with friends from 2:00 pm to 4:00 pm prior to the service.
