Mr. James Harvey McHargue, Jr., 69, of Statesville, passed away Monday, January 23, 2017, at the Gordon Hospice House. Mr. McHargue was born in Iredell County on August 13, 1947, and was the son of the late James H. McHargue, Sr. and Sarah Little Robinson. He was a graduate of Iredell County schools and on August 21, 1965, he married the love of his life Irene McAlpin McHargue, who preceded him in death on August 5, 2014. Mr. McHargue was retired from Burlington Industries where he worked as a material handler. He was a former member of Monticello Baptist Church and the Catawba and Iredell County Rescue Squads. Mr. McHargue can be remembered by many from many years working in the local theaters. He worked at the Playhouse Theater in the 60’s and 70’s, Newtown Cinemas and even the Carmike Cinemas. His sons James and Paul remember knowing that their dad was home by the smell of popcorn when he walked in the house. Mr. McHargue is survived by two sons, James McHargue (Susie) and Paul McHargue (Rachel), both of Statesville. He is also survived by 10 grandchildren; EJ Benfield (Brittney), Kallie McHargue, Lane McHargue, Jada McHargue, Jasmine McHargue, Brandon Gryder, Kaylon Gryder, Anthony Sadler, Landon Sadler and Layla Sharpe, and one great grandson, Easton Benfield. He is further survived by one brother Wayne McHargue of Harmony along with three sisters, Elaine M. Turner (Danny), Teresa McHargue, both of Statesville and Karen M. Howard (Keith) of Harmony and a number of nieces, nephews and cousins. Funeral services honoring Mr. McHargue will be conducted at 4:15 PM Saturday, January 28, 2017, in the Nicholson Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Ronnie Allen officiating. The family will visit with friends from 3:00 until 4:00 PM at the funeral home. Burial will follow at a later date in the Liledoun Baptist Church Cemetery.
