Mr. James Walker Freeland, 89, of Statesville, died Monday, December 24, 2018 at the Gordon Hospice House.
Mr. Freeland was born in Mecklenburg County on October 17, 1929 and was the son of the late Preston Troy Freeland and Marbelle Walker Freeland. He attended Mecklenburg County schools and in 1949 he married Betty Williams Freeland, who preceded him in death.
Mr. Freeland was a veteran of the U.S. Navy and served during the Korean Conflict. He was a member of Friendship United Methodist Church and he was a retired truck driver with Douglas & Sons Trucking.
Left to cherish his memory are his children, Myra Hurst (Astor) of Locust and Mike Freeland (Sherri) of Wilkesboro along with two grandchildren, Tracey Cooke (Keith) and Troy Hurst and a great-granddaughter, Addison, along with a brother, Alan Freeland of Charlotte. He is further survived by his Douglas & Sons family, who he shared a special bond with over the years and a special friend, Elsie Kamps and her family.
A Graveside funeral service honoring the life of James Freeland will be conducted at 11:00 AM Saturday, December 29 in the Sharon Memorial Park in Charlotte. A memorial service will be Saturday at 4:00 P.M. at Friendship United Methodist Church with Rev. Dr. Judy Eurey officiating. The family will greet friends at the church following the service in the fellowship hall.
