Mr. James Franklin Elmore, Jr., 88, of Statesville, passed away Sunday, February 24, 2019 at his home. Mr. Elmore was born in Kinston, NC on September 12, 1930 and was the son of the late James F. Elmore, Sr. and Clyde “Odie” Brinkley Elmore. He attended Lenoir County Schools and he served his country proudly in the U.S. Army during the Korean War.
On April 2, 1962 he married Rosalee Smith Elmore and together they shared 56 years of marriage until his passing.
Mr. Elmore was a member of Unity Baptist Church where he served as an usher. He was a retired truck driver with Star Milling CO and was a member of the American Legion Post 65.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sons, Jimmy Elmore, III and Joseph Elmore along with one grandson, Brandon Johnson and two brothers, Sydney and Johnny Elmore.
Along with his wife, Rosalee, he is survived by one son, Shan Elmore and four daughters, Brenda Greene, Linda Johnson, Judy Elmore, all of Statesville and Mary Jane Humphries of Virginia. He is also survived by 10 grandchildren, Bennie Wiles, Susan Gilbert (Bryan), Jennifer Wiles, Jeffrey Johnson, Randy Johnson, Joseph Elmore (Melissa), Kelly Mills (Chris), Allen Humphries, Amanda Lowry, and Stephine Reed. Four sisters, Betty, Leafy, Essie, and Annie and one brother, Jerry along with 19 great-grandchildren also survive.
Funeral services honoring the life of James Elmore will be conducted at 1:30 PM Wednesday, February 27 at Unity Baptist Church with Pastor James Keever officiating. The family will visit wtih freinds from 12:30 until 1:30 PM at the church. Burial with full military honors provided by the Iredell County Veterans Burial Detail will follow in Iredell Memorial Gardens Cemetery.
