James Donald (Don) McLelland

February 22, 1928 — November 11, 2017

James Donald “Don” McLelland, 89, of Statesville, passed away on Saturday, November 11, 2017, at Rosewood Assisted Living in Harmony, NC.  He had been in declining health for the past three years. He was born the youngest of 12 children to D.N. and Zora Carrie Sloan McLelland on February 22, 1928, in Iredell County. He was educated in Iredell County schools.  Mr. McLelland was a farmer and he also worked at Burlington Industries for 35 years.  He was a member or Mountain View Methodist Church for more than 65 years.  Mr. McLelland was a member of Snow Creek Masonic Lodge for 70 years and an honorary member of several area lodges in the surround area. On July 16, 1950, he married Dorothy Millsaps McLelland and together they shared 50 years of marriage until her death on November 27, 2000.  He was also preceded in death by a son, James Bradford McLelland along with seven brothers and four sisters. Left to cherish his memory are his three daughters, Peggy Call (Dwight), Ann Hill (Jerry), and Kay Mason (Dale) along with one daughter-in-law, Darlene McLelland.  He is also survived by seven grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren. Funeral services honoring the life of Don McLelland will be held at 11:00 AM Tuesday, November 14, 2017, at Mountain View Methodist Church with Rev. Sarah Fisher and Rev. Henry Cook officiating.  Mr. McLelland will lie in state for 30 minutes prior to the funeral service.  Burial with masonic rites provided by the Snow Creek Masonic Lodge AF & AM #571 will follow in the church cemetery.  The family will visit with friends following the committal service in the church fellowship hall. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Mountain View United Methodist Church Cemetery fund.  The family would also like to extend a special thanks to the staff of Rosewood Assisted Living and a very special care giver and friend, Lori.  Online condolences can be made to the family at www.nicholsonfunerals.com and Nicholson Funeral Home is serving the family of Don McLelland.
