Jacqueline Lenora Horn Gibson, 79, formerly of Winston-Salem, passed away Sunday, April 30, 2017 at Grand Strand Medical Center in Myrtle Beach. She was born in Iredell County on November 7, 1937 to the late John W. and Katie Montgomery Horne. Jackie was a graduate of Statesville Sr. High, received her BA from Wake Forest University, and her Master’s from UNC-G. She was married in 1963 to Joe Gibson who preceded her in death in 1995. They shared over 32 years of marriage before his passing. She was a school teacher and guidance counselor in Winston-Salem and Forsyth County Schools. Jackie was a member of First Baptist Church of Winston-Salem. Along with her parents and husband, Joe, she was preceded in death by three brothers, John, Jimmy, and Joe along with a sister, Jane Riley. Left to cherish her memory are a son, Joel Gibson (Trish Grossmann); two granddaughters, Topeka Gibson-Grossmann, and Lily Gibson-Grossmann; a grandson, Carter Gibson-Grossmann; a sister, Judy Church; a brother, Jeff Horne (Caroline); and numerous nieces and nephews. She loved them all. A Memorial Service will be held 3:00 PM Saturday, May 6, 2017 at First Baptist Church on Fifth Street in Winston-Salem with Pastor Emily Hull McGee officiating. A private family burial will be held at Oakwood Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association, 3800 Shamrock Road, Charlotte, NC 28215.
