Irene (Willie) Dagenhart Barnes, 94, of Statesville, passed away on September 18, 2019, after a brief illness.
Mrs. Barnes was born February 19, 1925, in Alexander County to the late Noah Dagenhart and Loula Beam Dagenhart. She attended Sharon High School in Iredell County. Mrs. Barnes was married to Devon Edward Barnes on February 25, 1944, in York, South Carolina.
Mrs. Barnes was a member of Western Avenue Baptist Church. She retired from J.C. Penney Distribution, as a Seamstress and Receiving Clerk in 1986.
Mrs. Barnes is survived by her husband, Devon Edward Barnes; two daughters, Gail Barnes Millsaps, of Stony Point; and Carol Barnes Clary (and husband, Dennis), of Statesville. Grandchildren, Michael Millsaps, Karen Clary Holman and Lori Millsaps Taylor. Great grandchildren Chelsea, Micah, Dustin, Cody, Tanner, Dylan and Madelyn, Stephanie, Lauren, Olivia, Alexa and Gracie as well as four great-great grandchildren Bella, Iden Kaydence and Paiyton.,
In addition to her parents, Mrs. Barnes was proceeded in death by sisters, Ella D. Morrison, Ruth D. Stikeleather, Elsie D. Gantt, Mary Lou D. Hager and Stella D. Comer; brothers, Paul Dagenhart, Glenn Dagenhart and Rowe Dagenhart, son-in-law Joe Millsaps and beloved friend LeVelle Van Vorst.
Services honoring the life of Mrs. Barnes will be held on Saturday, September 21, 2019 at Western Avenue Baptist Church with Dr. Jeff Spry officiating. The family will receive friends at 10:00 am at Western Avenue Baptist Church, with the funeral to follow at 11:00. Burial will follow at Iredell Memorial Gardens and Mausoleums, 2304 Shelton Avenue, in Statesville. Pallbearers will be Dylan Holman, Jonathan Holman, Dwight Taylor, Tanner Wolf and Cody Frogge.
