Irelene Merritt

Mrs. Irelene Melton Merritt, 78, of Statesville, passed away Thursday, December 2, 2010 at Iredell Memorial Hospital. Mrs. Merritt was born December 16, 1931 in Davie County and was the daughter of the late Willie Everette Melton and Minnie McDaniel Melton. She was a graduate of Davie County Schools and on March 3, 1949 was married to the late Oliver Franklin "Buck" Merritt. She was a member of Cornatzer Methodist Church and was retired from Hunt Manufacturing. Mrs. Merritt was a loving mother, grandmother, great grandmother and friend. Mrs. Merritt is survived by three sons, Michael Merritt (Becky) of Stony Point, Ronnie Merritt (Debbie) of Statesville, Dennis Merritt of Statesville, three grandchildren, Elizabeth Bunton (Josh) of Stony Point, Adam Merritt and fianc�, Bridgett Adams of Troutman, Josh Merritt of Statesville, six grandchildren, Jacob, Abby, Isaac, David and Jason Bunton and Karlyn Betts and one sister, Lucille Foster of Mooresville. Funeral services will be conducted 3:00 p.m. Sunday, December 5, 2010 in the Nicholson Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Tony Bunton officiating. Burial will follow in the Cornatzer Methodist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Sunday from 2:00-3:00 p.m. at Nicholson Funeral Home.
