Iona Walker Grant, 103, of Statesville passed away Saturday, February 14, 2005 at Genesis Health Care in Mooresville. She was born in Iredell County on June 14, 1911 to the late James Robert Walker and Maggie Ellen Campbell Walker. Mrs. Grant was a graduate of Iredell County Schools and was married to George Maxwell Grant on December 23, 1931 who preceded her in death in 1973. They were owners and operators of Grant’s Store in Turnersburg for over 30 years. She was a member of First Baptist Church. She loved flowers, enjoyed talking and visiting with friends. Along with her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by a son, Stephen Maxwell Grant; six sisters; and two brothers along with a granddaughter-in-law, Beth Grant. Left to cherish her memory are a son, R. Rex Grant (Billie) of Charlotte; a daughter, Irene G. Rhyne (John) of Mooresville; a daughter-in-law, Betty D. Grant of Statesville; a grandson, Rodney Grant of Charlotte; three granddaughters, Robin G. Owen of Charlotte, Stephanie G. Rietschel (Bill) of Archdale, and Adrienne Grant of Maryland; and four great grandchildren, Max Owen, Dana Owen, Andrew Rietschel, and Benjamin Rietschel. Funeral services will be conducted 2:00PM Saturday, February 21, 2015 in the Nicholson Funeral Home Chapel with Dr. Jack Causey officiating. Burial will follow in the White Plains Baptist Church Cemetery in Alexander County. The family will visit with friends on Saturday prior to the service from 1:00 until 2:00 PM at the funeral home.
