Imozell (Box) Howell

February 17, 1930 — December 8, 2017

Imozell Box Howell, 87, of Statesville, NC, died peacefully at home on December 8, 2017, surrounded by her loving family. She was born on February 17, 1930, in rural Choctaw County, MS, to the late Claude Box and Emma Trussell Box.  Imozell graduated from Kilmichael High School in Kilmichael, MS.  She married Charles Lee Howell on February 8, 1949, and they shared 67 wonderful years together before his death on March 12, 2016.  Imozell worked many years for Hunter Fan in Memphis, TN.  She became a full-time homemaker after she and Charles moved to Statesville, NC.  Some of the hobbies she enjoyed were making jam and preserves, cooking, sewing, vegetable gardening, and crossword puzzles.  More than anything, she loved spending time with her family; and children held a special place in her heart.  She was filled with an unconditional, nonjudgmental love for her family and friends and always treated others with love, respect, compassion, and empathy.  Imozell was deeply devoted to her Christian faith and was a wonderful influence on her family and to all who knew her.  She was loved very much by her family and friends and will be greatly missed. She was a faithful member of Northview Wesleyan Church in Statesville. Since one of her many gifts was the ability to connect with children, and because of her love for them, she enjoyed serving in the church nursery for many years.  She also helped other church members to lovingly prepare meals for families in times of need. In addition to her parents and her loving husband, Charles, Imozell was preceded in death by two brothers, two sisters, and one granddaughter. Imozell is survived by a son, Steve Howell (Betty) of Collierville, TN; three daughters, Phyllis Chapman (Bob) of Bartlett, TN, Donna McCann (Mike) of Statesville, NC, and Marcia Bledsoe (Jim) of Bartlett, TN; and sixteen grandchildren, and many great grandchildren and great great grandchildren.  She is also survived by a brother, William Box (Anna Rose) of Flowood, MS; and two sisters, Vonnie Lou Box of Memphis, TN and Frankye Box Barnett of Memphis, TN. Services to honor Imozell Box Howell’s life will be conducted at 3:00 PM Thursday, March 15, 2018, at Northview Wesleyan Church, 275 Shumaker Drive, Statesville, NC  28625, with Rev. Brad Pharr officiating.  The family will receive friends for one hour prior to the service.   Online condolences may be sent to the family at www.nicholsonfunerals.com .  For those who prefer, memorials may be given to Northview Wesleyan Church, or to Hospice of Iredell County, 2347 Simonton Road, Statesville, NC  28625.  Nicholson Funeral Home is entrusted with the arrangements.
