Mr. Hoyle Nelson Goforth, 86, of Troutman, died Saturday, May 28, 2016 at Davis Regional Medical Center. Born in Mount Airy, N.C. on June 18, 1929, he was a son of the late Lonnie Garfield Goforth and Gertrude Warden Goforth. He was preceded in death by his wife of 55 years, Alice Carolyn Lazenby Goforth whom he married on May 12, 1956. Mr. Goforth was a member of Troutman First United Methodist Church and retired in 1995 from Bell Construction Company in Statesville as an engineer and partner. He was past president of the Kiwanis Club and was a member of the Duck Creek Gun Club, Wesley Fellowship, The Statesville Shrine Club and Mount Moriah Lodge # 690 A.F. & A.M. He graduated from Statesville High School and Mitchell Community College. He served in the U. S. Navy during the Korean War. Survivors include a son, David N. Goforth of Troutman, a daughter, Linda G. Johnson and her husband, James L. Johnson of Benson, N.C., grandsons: William A. Johnson of Benson, N.C. and Ethan H. Johnson of Camp Lejeune, N.C. Also surviving are a brother, D.W. Goforth and a sister, Doris G. Williard both of Statesville. Funeral services are scheduled for 2:00 P.M. Tuesday, May 31, 2016 at Troutman First United Methodist Church with Pastor Mike Carr officiating. The family will receive friends at the church for one hour prior to the service and burial will follow at Iredell Memorial Gardens.
