Horace “Butch” Hinton Riddick, Jr., 75, of Statesville, passed away Friday, June 23, 2017 at Iredell Memorial Hospital. He was born on August 21, 1941 in Iredell County to the late Horace H. Riddick, Sr. and Lorene Ann Abernathy Riddick. Butch was a graduate of Troutman High School in 1959 and went to work for Southern Screw upon graduation. He spent most of his career at Southern Screw which later became Southern Fasteners. He was manager of the plating department. Butch loved fishing and playing music. As a young boy, he dreamed of living at the beach and reached his dream by moving to Oak Island in 1990. He never met a stranger and will be missed by all who knew him. Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Lois Anne Riddick; a brother, C.H. Riddick; nephew, Michael Riddick; and his long-time companion and soulmate, Brenda Mason. Left to cherish his memory are a daughter, Sandy Lea (Dean) of Eatonton, Georgia; two sons, H. Hinton Riddick III (Melinda) and Scott Riddick (Lisa), both of Statesville; four grandchildren, Dustin Lea, Clinton Lea, Dylan Riddick, and Codi Riddick; an aunt, Leitha Riddle, and special caregiver, Rhea Lamb (Bill).
